Your Skin Changes With The Seasons, And Your Routine Should Too
As we move into the warmer months, one of the most common mistakes I see in clinic is people continuing to treat their skin the same way they did during winter.
Our skin is constantly responding to its environment. Changes in temperature, humidity, UV exposure, travel, air conditioning, heating, and even lifestyle habits can all influence how the skin behaves. A routine that felt perfectly balanced a few months ago may suddenly leave your skin feeling oily, congested, dehydrated, irritated, or more reactive than usual.
During summer, increased temperatures often stimulate oil production, particularly in acne-prone skin. At the same time, higher levels of UV exposure and heat can exacerbate concerns such as pigmentation, redness, inflammation, and premature ageing. Even patients who are consistent with their skincare throughout the year often notice changes in texture, sensitivity, breakouts, or overall skin health during this seasonal transition.
This is why skincare should never be about following trends or copying someone else's routine. Healthy skin starts with understanding your own skin and recognising that its needs can change throughout the year. What works well in one season may not necessarily serve your skin in the next.
For many people, summer skincare isn't about adding more products. In fact, it's often the opposite. A simpler, more targeted approach can be far more effective. Focusing on barrier health, maintaining hydration, incorporating appropriate active ingredients, and ensuring daily SPF protection becomes a non-negotiable part of protecting long-term skin health.
Having personally experienced both acne and pigmentation concerns, I understand how frustrating it can be when your skin suddenly seems to change. It's one of the reasons I am so passionate about helping patients truly understand their skin, rather than relying on trial and error or the latest skincare trend.
Over the coming weeks, I'll also be introducing something new called My Skin Health.
Whilst I'll be sharing more details soon, the aim is simple: to help patients better understand their skin, build healthier long-term habits, and feel more confident navigating skincare with professional guidance and support.
Because healthy skin has never been about perfection. It's about consistency, education, prevention, and making informed decisions that support your skin for the long term.
If you've noticed changes in your skin recently, or you're unsure whether your current products and treatments are still right for you heading into summer, a professional skin consultation is always the best place to start.
